Overview

Overview

This 1964 Belair Pro Touring Hot Rod is powered by a modified 454 cubic inch V8 paired with a 700 R4 automatic transmission and a floor mounted shifter. The exterior is finished in Chrysler Patriot Blue with all trim work replaced with air brushed versions. The interior is finished in gray vinyl with cloth inserts. The chassis is from a 1986 Monte Carlo SS (G body).  This change allows the use of the Monte Carlo’s updated power steering, power disc brakes, and performance sway bars.  It also eliminates the “X bar” that was used on the original chassis. Additional details are below.

The Belair is a 2 door post car, painted Chrysler Patriot Blue. Chrome moldings and side emblems have been replaced with airbrushed versions and are nearly indistinguishable from the originals. This allows much easier cleaning and detailing.

The heater and air conditioning retain the factory cable controls but other components are from Classic Auto Air.  A Dakota Digital cruise control unit is mounted to the turn signal stalk.  The car retains it’s factory original tachometer.  All glass is said to be in perfect condition. The car is powered by a Gen IV (1971 LS-5) 454 cubic inch V8 which has been bored +.030 resulting in 461 cubic inches of displacement. Additional engine upgrades include refreshed oval port heads, roller rockers, a Crane 133901 flat tappet cam,  FI Tech 600 EFI, and an aluminum dual plane intake manifold.  Motor was built for street cruising and uses pump gas. It is said to consume 12 mpg on the highway with the air conditioning running. The motor was originally advertised as having 390 HP prior to modification. The current horse power is unknown. Power is delivered through a 700 R4 (4L60 – Serial # 7YWM226H, MD8 on bell housing) overdrive automatic transmission with a stock stall speed torque converter and 3:73 rear end gear ratio.  Hedman ceramic coated headers are installed with an ‘X’ pipe.
